Dryer Vent Cleaning
-
Safety: Lint buildup can clog the vent pipe, causing hot air and moisture to back up into other parts of your dryer, which can increase the risk of fire.
-
Efficiency: When the vent is clogged, your dryer has to work harder to dry your clothes, which can wear down the dryer and decrease its efficiency. Regular cleaning can also help keep allergens at bay
Here are some signs that your dryer vent needs cleaning:
-
Clothes take longer to dry
-
The dryer feels hot to the touch after a cycle
-
Your laundry room feels hot after a cycle
-
The dryer smells like it's burning
-
The lint trap has excess lint after each cycle
-
There's debris outside the dryer vent
-
The lint trap doesn't catch as much lint as it used to
-
There's more lint on your clothes after drying
-
There's less airflow from the dryer vent
-

-

Here are some tips for maintaining smoke detectors:
-
Test monthly
Test your smoke alarm at least once a month to ensure it's working. You can press the "test" button to see if the unit chirps. If the alarm chirps constantly or makes strange beeps, replace the batteries.
-
Check batteries weekly
Check the battery weekly or at least once a month. If the alarm chirps, replace the battery immediately. Low batteries can cause inaccurate alerts or a slower response time. When replacing the battery, use the manufacturer's recommended battery, as other batteries may not work properly.
-
Clean regularly
Clean the smoke alarm once a week without removing it. Use a damp cloth to wipe it down and dust it as needed. Dust and other substances can build up on the sensors and reduce the alarm's effectiveness.
-
Replace every 10 years
Smoke detectors wear down over time and should be replaced every 10 years. You can also replace them if they're detecting false smoke or chirping after changing the battery.
-
Follow the manufacturer's instructions
The manufacturer's instructions can serve as a guide for maintenance
